Summer Tradition

Summer is winding down at the Hartin house. Soccer is in full swing, Kindergarten is around the corner, and the kids are getting a little sick of one another. We enjoyed a favorite summer tradition tonight - ICE CREAM FOR DINNER. We headed to Coldstone Creamery for a calorie rich meal. Will's choice was the most unusual - lemon sorbet, gummy bears, rainbow and chocolate jimmies. Big surprise - he didn't like it and ended up eating everyone else's ice cream. Luckily, we had plenty to share.

Farmer's Market under the JFX

We love a good Sunday AM trip to the Farmer's Market under 83 heading into the city. They have a great selection of fruits and vegetables. We got peaches, blackberries, and two melons as well as some tasty fresh lima beans. We also got some sweet corn but realized when we got it home that it had been compromised by worms...NOT HAPPY! In addition to all of the normal farmers market food you can also find many Indian dishes, crepes, omlettes, mini-donuts, and fish tacos. Isn't that what everyone wants to eat at 8:30 on a Sunday morning?

Lemonade Anyone?

Royce and her friend have been asking for over a year to have a Lemonade Stand. Finally today, I ran out of reasons to say no. Well....I actually thought it would rain and I would buy myself another few days. The rain held off and the terrible humidity made it a great day to sell lemonade. We had many kind neighbors who stopped by along with one or two people driving past the house.

Cantaloupevision

A few months ago Royce planted some cantaloupe seeds in a flowerbed in our backyard. At first we figured nothing would come of it, then as luck would have it, something started to grow out of the ground where she said she had put the seeds. Carrie and I thought it was a weed. Since neither one of us can profess to have a green thumb we consulted others. They assured us that it indeed was a plant of some sort. Over the past couple of weeks the plant has begun to flower and just recently it bore fruit.

We think Farmer Royce has produced cantaloupe. Hopefully it will continue to mature under her watchful eye.

Please Touch Museum

Last weekend we went up to Philadelphia to spend the day with Carrie's sister. While we were there we went to the Please Touch Museum. It's an interactive museum for kids. Royce, Will, and Preston had a great time. Each one of them enjoyed different exhibits. It's a place that we will definitely re-visit in the future.

A Dutch Wonderful Day

On Saturday, we traveled up to Lancaster with some friends to spend the day at Dutch Wonderland. If you have kids in the infant to elementary school age, this is the place for you. Not overly expensive and plenty of activities for all children. Minus the torrential rain that lasted almost an hour, we had a great day with friends and kids alike.

Preston's Birthday

Okay, trying to catch up a little bit with some posts. Last week Preston turned 2 years old. We were able to have some friends over for pizza and cake on his special day. And over the weekend we had a very nice party with friends and some of Preston's relatives. All in all, I think Preston has had a great birthday.
